The Riedizioni project: thoughts on design, production and sustainability.

On the occasion of the third annual Italian Design Day, the special initiative launched by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation to promote contemporary Italian Design in the world, Luisa Cevese,  who was selected as 2019 Ambassador of Italian Design for Los Angeles, will present her exhibit "I love waste, working with waste - Luisa Cevese Riedizioni e Riedizioni speciali" at the ICCC. On view a variety of unique and refined design objects that are the results of her creative way to recycle textile scraps. About Luisa Cevese: Born in Milan, from 1978 to 1983 the self-taught designer interested in both textile and art lived and worked in London, the U.S., and Mexico. Since 1984 she has designed textiles sold to fashion and interior designers and textile firms, advertising companies, interior and accessories stores, such as De Padova, Gallia e Peter, J. W. Thompson, Diego Della Valle, Dolce&Gabbana, Romeo Gigli, Bonotto, Maharam, Hermès, Chanel, e Comme des Garçons. From 1993 to 1995 she lectured in arts and design schools and conferences in Italy and abroad. In 1996 she founded Luisa Cevese Riedizioni, the brand name of a line of textiles and products made out of the combination of primarily textile industrial waste and polyurethane. Her project RIEDIZIONI is a collection of products made out of an innovative, original material which combines textile scraps with plastic, called II (eleven). II is the result of two elements perceived as opposite and contradictory: (I) the textile element (warm, precious, soft) and (I) the plastic element (cold, rigid, cheap and throw away). II is not the sum of the two but a third element, more of the two together. The products are similar but never the same. Each piece is unique and hand made in Italy in a sustainable production that utilizes both natural and man-made fibers. http://riedizioni.com/ http://riedizioni.com/project/ The ICCC is funded in part by the City of Houston through Houston Arts Alliance.
